True Summer is the season where coolness leads without being extreme in depth or clarity. Hair is usually ash brown, eyes blue, grey or cool green, and skin reads rosy or neutral rather than golden. Contrast between the features is moderate: nothing on the face is startling next to anything else.
Because coolness is the leading axis, hue mistakes matter more than depth mistakes. A colour that is slightly too dark but properly cool will look acceptable. A colour that is the right depth but warm will turn the skin yellow immediately.
The True Summer palette, and why these colors work
Cornflower, denim blue and wedgwood carry the blue base, while raspberry rose and dusty pink keep it from being cold. Sea green and spruce are the greens that work, because they have blue in them rather than yellow. Soft violet adds the colour most summer palettes are missing.
Navy is the deep anchor and cool grey is the everyday one, which is why this season builds a wardrobe more easily than most.

What to avoid, and what goes wrong
Orange, mustard, rust, tomato and warm camel are the colors to leave alone. They carry yellow into a face that has none, and the result is a sallow cast that no makeup fixes. Warm gold jewellery does the same thing in miniature, which is why silver reads cleaner here.
The other failure is contrast rather than hue: hard black beside optical white creates an edge this colouring cannot match. Navy with soft white gives the same smartness while keeping the face in the picture.
Telling True Summer apart from its neighbours
Soft Summer is the closest neighbour and the usual confusion. Both are cool and softened. Soft Summer is more muted still, so its colors have visibly more grey: slate, mauve, sage teal. If mid-saturation colors like cornflower look clean rather than loud on you, True Summer is the better fit.
Light Summer is the other side, sharing the coolness at a lighter value. If mid-tones feel heavy and pastels feel natural, you are probably Light rather than True.

Common questions
Can True Summers wear black?+
It is not the best choice. Black creates a contrast edge this colouring does not carry, so the face can look tired beside it. Navy and charcoal with a blue base do the same job more kindly.
What is the best white for True Summer?+
Soft white or a cool off-white. Optical white is too stark, and cream is too warm, so both work against the palette in opposite directions.
What metals suit True Summer?+
Silver and white gold. Yellow gold brings warmth the skin does not have, though a pale rose gold can pass if the tone is soft.
How do I tell True Summer from Soft Summer?+
Saturation. Both are cool. If a clean mid-blue like cornflower looks right, you are True Summer. If that same blue looks slightly loud and slate or mauve looks better, you sit in Soft Summer.
