The two measurements that describe a profile

Orthodontic profile assessment leans on a handful of references, and this tool measures the two most useful. The facial convexity angle — brow ridge to the base of the nose to the chin — describes how the jaw sits relative to the upper face: roughly 165–177° reads straight ("orthognathic"), smaller angles read convex (chin relatively back), larger read concave (chin relatively forward). The Ricketts E-line runs from nose tip to chin: adult lips typically rest slightly behind it, and lip position against it is the standard quick read of profile balance.

You place the five points yourself, because landmark models are trained on frontal faces — and manual placement adds a couple degrees of noise, so treat the angle as a range. More important context: attractive profiles span the entire straight-to-convex spectrum, and profile geometry is skeletal — no exercise changes it. Real changes in this category are orthodontic and surgical territory, which is exactly why honest measurement beats forum speculation.
Reading your convexity result
A straight (orthognathic) profile — roughly 165–177° — means your upper face, midface, and chin stack in a near-line: the configuration orthodontics treats as the reference, though not a requirement for an attractive profile. A convex profile (smaller angle) means the chin sits relatively behind the forehead line; mild convexity is extremely common and often reads soft or youthful. A concave-leaning profile (larger angle) means a relatively forward lower jaw — the "strong chin" configuration that fashion periodically celebrates.
The E-line adds the lip layer: lips well behind the line pair with convex profiles and prominent noses; lips at or ahead of the line pair with forward jaws or fuller lips. Orthodontists read these two measures together before treatment because braces and jaw surgery literally move them — which is also the honest disclosure: if your measurements sit far outside the typical bands and it bothers you, the interventions that change profile geometry are orthodontic and surgical, not topical.
Taking a profile photo that measures true
Stand side-on to the camera at eye level, look at the horizon (not down at a phone — neck flexion changes the chin position), relax your lips and jaw, and pull hair behind the ear so the brow ridge and forehead slope are visible. Have someone else shoot from 1.5–2 meters: a selfie-arm profile is both rotated and lens-distorted, and can move the convexity angle by more than the measurement bands are wide.

What is the E-line?+

Can mewing change my side profile?+
