The science
How the match is made

A face recognition model turns a face into a signature of 128 numbers that describe its shape: the spacing and size of the eyes, nose, mouth, jaw and brow, and how they relate. Your signature is computed in your browser from your photo. It is then compared with the signatures of 600 well-known people, and the closest three are shown with a similarity score.

The database is deliberately balanced: half women and half men, drawn evenly from South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Africa and the African diaspora, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the US and Canada. A lookalike tool built only on American celebrities matches most of the world badly; this one is built so that a match is possible whatever you look like.

The similarity score measures geometry, not identity and not attractiveness. It moves with lighting, angle, expression and photo quality, so the same person can get different matches from different photos. A typical best match lands between 60 and 70 percent; above 80 percent is a genuinely close resemblance. It is for fun, and it says nothing about anyone as a person.

Common questions
What celebrity do I look like?+
Add a clear, front-facing photo in even light and the tool compares your face signature with 600 well-known people, showing your three closest matches with a similarity score. Try two or three photos: the one that agrees most often is your most reliable match.
Is the celebrity look alike test accurate?+
It is consistent for a given photo, and a close match really does share face geometry. It is not a verification tool: in testing with a second photo of the same celebrity, the right person was the top match about two times in three and in the top three about three times in four. Lighting and angle matter a lot.
Is my photo uploaded?+
No. The face model and the celebrity data download to your browser and the comparison runs there. Your photo is never sent anywhere, and no celebrity photos are loaded either: the tool compares numbers only.
Why did I get a celebrity of a different gender or ethnicity?+
The model compares face geometry only, and resemblance crosses those lines more often than people expect. Different photos of you can also produce different matches, so try another in even light.
