Light Summer color palette: the colors that work, and why
Light Summer is light first, cool second and softened third. The palette reads powdery: powder blue, rose, lavender, cool mint. Black and anything hot or earthy are what work against it.

Find your tone: Color season analysis →What makes you a Light Summer
Light Summer colouring is delicate and low in contrast. Hair is usually ash blonde to light ash brown, eyes are soft blue, grey-blue or soft green, and skin has a cool or neutral cast that flushes pink rather than gold. The whole face sits in a narrow, light range.
That narrow range is the point. When clothing introduces a depth the face does not have, the clothing wins and the face recedes. This is why light seasons are defined by depth before hue, and why the palette stays in the upper half of the scale.
The Light Summer palette, and why these colors work
Powder blue, rose, lavender and cool mint all share a blue base and a light value with a little grey mixed in. That softness matters: Light Summer is not a clear season, so colour that is too vivid will look harsh even when the hue is right.
Soft navy is the anchor colour here, doing the job black cannot, and blue-grey works as a mid-tone that never fights the face.

What to avoid, and what goes wrong
Black is the main problem, and it is usually a wardrobe habit rather than a choice. On light cool colouring it creates hard shadows under the eyes and jaw. Soft navy and blue grey are the swaps, and photographs show the difference immediately.
Warm colors are the second problem: orange, mustard, rust and warm camel all add a yellow cast to skin that has none, which reads as sallowness. Neon and high-saturation brights fail for a third reason, which is that they out-shout a naturally soft face.
Telling Light Summer apart from its neighbours
Light Spring is the twin to rule out, and hue is the difference. Both are light and gentle. Light Spring is warm, so peach and buttercup flatter it. Light Summer is cool, so those same colors turn the skin slightly yellow while rose and lavender even it out.
True Summer is the other neighbour, sharing the coolness with more depth. If mid-tone colors like denim blue and raspberry rose feel comfortable rather than heavy, you probably sit closer to True Summer than to Light.

FAQ
Common questions
Can Light Summers wear white?+
Soft white and off-white, yes. Optical bright white is harsh against this colouring, the same way black is, because it sits outside the narrow range the face works in.
Is Light Summer warm or cool?+
Cool, with the softness of a summer palette. Every colour in it has a blue base, including the greens and the pinks.
What should Light Summers wear instead of black?+
Soft navy first, then blue grey or charcoal with a blue base. All three give depth to an outfit without pulling shadow onto the face.
How is Light Summer different from Soft Summer?+
Depth. Both are cool and muted, but Soft Summer sits deeper and is more muted still, so it can carry slate and mauve at mid depth. On Light Summer those same colors read heavy.
