Deep Autumn is usually dark-haired with warm-toned skin that tans rather than burns, and eyes that are deep brown, dark hazel or dark olive. The contrast between hair and skin is real but not icy, and warmth runs through everything.
Depth leading changes the shopping rule. A colour can be slightly off in hue and still work if the depth is right, while a pale colour with perfect warmth will still look thin. The face carries a lot of pigment, so the clothes have to as well.
The Deep Autumn palette, and why these colors work
Mahogany, deep brick and dark cherry hold the reds. Forest and dark teal give greens and blues that are deep enough to belong. Dark amber and dark gold carry the yellow end, and aubergine is the one purple that works because it is muted and deep rather than bright.

What to avoid, and what goes wrong
Pastels are the main failure: baby pink, powder blue, mint, lemon. They sit far above this colouring in value, so the face looks heavy and the clothing looks like it belongs to someone else. Washed, chalky colors do the same.
Cool icy shades are the second problem, because they fight the warmth as well as the depth. Silver-toned greys and icy blues are the usual offenders, and bright white is the most common of all.
Telling Deep Autumn apart from its neighbours
Deep Winter is the close call, and hue decides it. Both live at the dark end. Deep Winter is cool: burgundy, deep navy and dark emerald flatter it, and warm amber turns it slightly muddy. Deep Autumn takes the warm equivalents of the same depth.
True Autumn is the other neighbour, with the same warmth at less depth. If mid-tone rust and camel look comfortable rather than weak, True Autumn is the better home.
