Best beard styles for a heart-shaped face
A heart-shaped face is widest at the forehead and narrows to a pointed chin. The beard that suits it fills out the jaw and squares off the chin. Check your own face with one photo below: the test measures your jaw and chin against 73 men.

The science
Why these beards work on a heart-shaped face
01
A heart face is narrow where a beard grows: the jaw and the chin. That makes it the face a beard helps most. Full sides add width at the jaw, and a beard squared off at the bottom adds width at the chin, which balances the wide forehead above.
02
A full boxed beard, a short boxed beard and a rounded full beard all do this. The styles to avoid narrow the chin further: a ducktail trimmed to a point, and thin styles such as a chin strap that add no width to the jaw.
03
A beard covers only the lower face, so it cannot narrow the forehead; the hairstyle finder handles that end. The photo test reads how narrow your jaw and chin are against other men and says how full to grow the sides.
The 3 best beards for a heart-shaped face, and 2 to avoid
Best: a full boxed beard, a short boxed beard and a rounded full beard. Works against it: a ducktail and a chin strap. The same rules choose for the photo test, so a face that measures heart-shaped gets these picks; yours may differ where your numbers do.
Pick 1
Full boxed beard
Fills out the sides of a narrow jaw. Squares off a narrow chin.
Pick 2
Short boxed beard
Fills out the sides of a narrow jaw. Squares off a narrow chin.
Pick 3
Rounded full beard
Fills out the sides of a narrow jaw.
Works against it
Ducktail
A pointed chin narrows a narrow chin.
Works against it
Chin strap
Its tight sides leave a narrow jaw with no width added.
Is your face really heart-shaped?
Face shape by eye is a guess: hair hides the outline and a mirror flips it. The photo test at the top of this page reads the three measurements a beard works on and compares them with 73 men, so it picks your beard without needing the shape name. To name the shape, the face shape detector measures it from one photo, and the beard style finder has the full method and all 11 styles.
FAQ
Common questions
What beard suits a heart-shaped face?+
A beard with full sides and a squared-off bottom: a full boxed beard, a short boxed beard or a rounded full beard. They widen the narrow jaw and chin to balance the forehead.
Should a heart-shaped face avoid a goatee?+
A thin goatee or a pointed beard narrows a chin that is already narrow. If you like the look, a Balbo spreads along the jaw and adds the width a goatee does not.
Can a beard fix a pointed chin?+
It changes how the chin reads: a beard cut square at the bottom adds width there, and fuller sides carry that width along the jaw. The bone stays the same.
